Quarterfinals Picks
Unfortunately, we can’t cover every game on Tuesday, but we’ll have highlights of Freehold Twp-CBA and TRE-TRS. If anyone is at either the Howell-Wall or TRN-Holmdel game, please post some thoughts. In fact, post if you’re at the other games as well.
All of these games should be competitive, but if there is one in which a team will pull away, I’d say it’s Holmdel beating Toms River North. I just don’t think there is a phase in the game which Toms River North can exploit and in order for the Mariners to win, they me need Holmdel to have an off game to some degree. As well as Toms River North has looked in the last month, Holmdel doesn’t really have a flaw at the moment. But one game can change a lot.
Tuesday is a potentially season-defining game for Freehold Township. If CBA is that much better, then I’m sure the Pats can live with it, but I think everyone is still waiting for a signature performance from Freehold Township. Perhaps we already saw it in the second half of the first loss to CBA, but as an underdog on Tuesday and much healthier than they’ve been in a month, Freehold Township may have that showing in them.
Onto the picks.
CBA over Freehold Township, 3-1
Holmdel over Toms River North, 3-0
Wall over Howell, 1-0
TRE over TRS, 1-0

first off matt i am very dissapointed that yeah picked wall to upset howell…howell dominated 3-1 controlling all aspects of the game
I mean and holmdel didnt quite blowout tr north
Holmdel outplayed TRN but to north’s credit they hung in there and got the two goals they needed and managed to keep the high powered offense of holmdel in check
I’m disappointed in your pick against Howell. The Rebels dominated the entire game, except a few minutes at the end which got a little sloppy. I’d say Wall stood no chance from the start. I respectfully disagree with your decision, can’t doubt Howell’s abilities..
While at the Holmdel game, I noticed a lot of positives and negatives for this team. First, you cannot say that the team does not have talent because it is clear that they do with players in the “renowned” Academy League. Dan Metzger had himself a good game, yes he scored but Toms River did not let him exploit the spaces he is accustomed to. Some things I noticed however from the second game I saw in the season came down to the same problems that will continue to haunt Holmdel. The first thing is when they dribble too much and when they over complicate the high school game, and the second is that they are really small and thin. High school is kick and run. Dan and some others are too skillful to want to play this way however in the states, a lot of teams will use this technique and win games. If they use their speed more, they just might overcome their weight and height disadvantages and win big.
